Cleaning the Car Filter… Right or Wrong?
Many car owners hear the advice: “Clean the filter instead of replacing it.” But is this always true? The answer depends on the type of filter and its condition.
For example, the air filter is responsible for allowing clean air into the engine. Over time, dust and dirt accumulate, reducing combustion efficiency and increasing fuel consumption. In this case, cleaning the filter with compressed air may give it extra life, but if it’s old or heavily clogged, cleaning won’t help, and replacement is the best option.
The same applies to other filters like the cabin filter; sometimes a quick cleaning can remove dust and improve airflow, but if it’s worn out or too dirty, replacement is necessary.
In short:
Cleaning the filter is not wrong. It can be a temporary and cost-saving solution, but it doesn’t replace changing the filter when it’s in bad condition. It’s always best to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and replace filters according to the service schedule.
